200 Hour Teacher Training Programs coming in 2012

The Path of a Moon Goddess:

I have been teaching for several years, in many places and to many beautiful souls. I consider Yoga to be a complete way of life and try to follow its teachings day to day. My style is closely linked to myteacher, Shiva Rea, whom I consider an inspiration and illuminating source of light. I am Prana Flow and Hatha Yoga certified and have over 400 hours of training. I believe Yoga is not only a healing art, but also a haven for mind and spirit. Unrolling the Yoga mat brings great joy, love and passion to the surface.

Why private instruction?

Whether you've been to the local YMCA for a class or a beautiful studio, you know classes can get pretty big. It is almost impossible for a teacher to take the time to give you all the instructions for one single pose. Many teachers will pull out one or two points and mesh those into the pose or class. It is also impractical for a teacher to get to every student for alignment, opening etc.

Private instruction gives you the opportunity to work one on one with your teacher. He or she will design a class to meet your specific needs. You will learn the finer nuances and details of your practice. Define yourself here.

Personally, I have over 400 hours of yoga training. As well as years of personal practice, I have studied anatomy, kinesiology, biology and nutrition. I am also versed in yoga philosophy, tradition and culture.

Your practice can only deepen through private instruction.

Most asked questions:

What is Yoga's main purpose?

Uniting the individual spirit with the universal spirit. To find oneself beyond the ego and experience the self’s unified spirit that is in tune with the higher power. To perfect mind body and spirit in preparation for and ultimately to experience connection to God, the Supreme Being, Inner Light, Divine Teacher or whatever name is chosen.

Is Yoga right for me?

Yoga's benefits can be experienced by all ages and fitness levels. The key is finding a class and instructor that you mesh with. Try several different types and teachers. Follow the one that speaks to you.

What are some of Yoga's benefits?

By learning the breathing process and asanas (poses) the student begins a closer relationship with themselves. They learn to pay attention to all parts of their bodies, from the stretch of the big toe to the reach of the crown of the head. Yoga garners respect for the internal organs, it requires concentration to focus the brain and it fosters appreciation for the grace and beauty of the human body. Once a regular practice is begun, you'll stand taller, you'll walk straighter, you'll be aware of the fingers, the eyes, the knees. You'll tune into yourself on the deepest of levels.

Are there internal changes such as lowering blood pressure?

Yoga massages the internal organs and therefore relieves if not cures various ailments, from lowering blood pressure to easing digestive difficulties. Nearly every Yoga posture can be found to benefit an organ, a muscle or the soul itself. Steady gaze meditation not only improves concentration it also strengthens the muscles of the eye. Camel posture strengthens the spine while it benefits the thyroid gland and the reproductive organs. Steady practice of yoga will surely reap the rewards of a healthier body both inside and out. Regular yogic practice teaches the physical body to stand upright, not to slouch over. To rely on the bones to carry us and use the muscles for their intended work.

What is Karma?

Karma is the idea that all past actions and deeds carry over and remain a part of us. The shape of one’s life is determined by his actions and deeds, influencing “good” or “bad” karma.

What is Prana?

Chi. Nerve energy. Vital breath. Prana itself is difficult to explain, it exists yet doesn’t exist. It is yet isn’t. It is in all living things and is the force that animates. Prana is an energy that the body uses in all things, all movement and thought. It is a force that is consumed and expended.

What is the purpose of Savasana (corpse pose) and relaxation?

After Yoga practice, your body needs time to recover and come back to a state of rest. A few minutes or a lengthy meditation give your body and mind the chance to slow down and absorb all the benefits of practice. This is also an ideal time to connect with your inner self, find your spirit here in this quiet place.

What should I bring to class?

Bring a Yoga/Pilates mat, a block and a strap. These three items are basic essentials. You may also want to bring a blanket for Savasana or as a bolster for some poses.

Can I just use a DVD?

In fact, there are many benefits to using a DVD, cable program or other home practice. However, practicing in a class offers you the added benefit of learning from an instructor who can guide you in alignment and structure. You'll also have the opportunity to meet like-minded people and connect to new friends.

I use Wii Fit

Although this is a nice introductory program, again it doesn't give you the one on one with a teacher that deepens your practice. If Wii sparked your interest, stoke the fire with a class!
